Apply to become a Volunteer DJ
Volunteer as a voice-tracked DJ and help serve the Athens Area with great music, local information, and a true community sound.
What the role involves
Our volunteer DJs record their shows from home by voice-tracking between songs, using their own computer and microphone. The station provides all music playlists and the software you’ll need, so you don’t have to be a technical expert or build your own library. Your job is to bring the breaks to life with personality, local information, and thoughtful show prep.
You’ll introduce songs, share fun facts and artist/era trivia, highlight local events and nonprofits, and help keep Bulldog 93.3 sounding warm, friendly, and community-focused. This is not just “talking over intros” or reading a list of titles—we’re looking for people who care about doing a real show for their neighbors.
Technical requirements
- You record from home using your own computer.
- You must have a decent-quality microphone (for example, a Blue Yeti–class mic or better).
- Bulldog 93.3 will help you get set up with the required apps and show you how to record and send your tracks. The software is simple, and we provide training.
Time commitment and schedule
- Shows run in specific “day parts” (time slots). Each daily show
- Minimum commitment is at least 6 months, and we strongly prefer applicants who are interested in staying with the station longer term.
- There is a 1‑month trial/probation period at the beginning so both you and the station can confirm it’s a good fit.
- You must be able to reliably meet recording deadlines and not miss shows. Consistency is critical for a small community station.
Content and professionalism
Bulldog 93.3 is a non-profit community radio station that serves the local community, so professionalism and good judgment are expected.
- All content must be family‑friendly.
- No profanity or crude content, and no religious programming.
- No political rants, personal attacks, or anything that would undermine a welcoming community atmosphere.
- Music playlists are provided by the station; DJs do not program their own music.
- You should come prepared: mention community events, talk about artists and songs, share appropriate trivia or stories, and give listeners a reason to stay with you through the hour.
Station policies
- DJs must be open to feedback and guidance from station management. Airchecks and coaching are part of the process.
- No unauthorized sponsorships, ads, or paid mentions are allowed. Any underwriting or sponsorship messages are handled by the station and must follow our policies.
- This is an unpaid, volunteer position. You are helping a local nonprofit serve the community, not entering into an employment relationship.
Please complete the application form below as thoroughly as possible so we can get a clear picture of you, your interests, and your availability as a potential volunteer DJ. We review every submission and will respond to all applicants, even if we’re not able to place you in a show right away.
